Robert Smit is an artist painter who has been telling his story through extraordinary jewelry pieces. The only dutch artist from his generation who continued to work with gold against the then prevailing rebellion against the luxurious metal, expecting to work with day to day materials in conceptual style, he earned the title of being the most Italian of the dutch. The Padovan school of goldsmiths and its masters was of great influence to his work only for the technique, the colors and the materials. His style and story definitely originate from a different mindset that was influenced by the Netherlands, its landscape, his contemporaries ie. the zero group, Marlene Dumas and the very rich dutch culture within its protestant background.
